As food providers close across our cities, many of our clients — are feeling the loss of meals that these organizations provide. Your gift of a grocery delivery-service gift card, like Safeway(linked below), will help stock their pantries.
WAYS TO HELP
During this crisis, the safety of our clients and staff will be our highest priority. However, we are also making every effort to meet the immediate needs of our vulnerable adults and families during this disruption and need the support of the community.
The reality is that in addition to being uninsured or underinsured for medical care, most of our homeless and low-income clients do not have the financial means to stock up a pantry. Things like free and reduced school breakfasts that the children in our shelters and supportive housing programs rely on for their daily nutrition are also at risk with the recent school closures. Many of our low-income parents also have jobs that can’t be done remotely and have limited access to childcare.
There are many ways to make a difference for the men, women and children we serve. One of the most effective and safest way you can get involved now as this crisis continues to unfold is by making a financial gift to provide nourishing meals, warm and safe shelter and additional support to those in need.
We are also desperately in need of food items and personal supplies for the men, women and children we serve. Items such as:
- bread
- canned goods
- dry non-perishable food items
- female sanitary supplies
- toothpaste
- deodorant
- shampoo
- etc.
All these items except masks can be dropped off or mailed directly to the following locations:

Support Our Operation Backpack
Operation Backpack® is critical to Volunteers of America Chesapeake & Carolinas homeless students. In light of the current situation, these children’s families will be especially hard-pressed to buy school supplies this year. As a campaign that is 100% community funded, we need your help to ensure Operation Backpack® 2020 can meet the need. There are many ways to get involved. In particular, we are looking for companies to become Official Sponsors now.
