Chief Financial Officer
Suzanne Tobin graduated from Wake Forest University with a Bachelors of Accountancy and a Masters in the Science of Accountancy. She is a licensed certified public accountant.
Suzanne has been in the accounting field for 19 years, starting as a tax associate with Arthur Andersen LLP. Suzanne serves as the Chief Financial Officer for Volunteers of America Chesapeake and Carolinas, a $42MM affiliate covering Maryland, Washington DC, Virginia and the Carolinas. She began with the Chesapeake and Carolinas affiliate in 2013 as the Vice President and Controller. In 2015, Suzanne, also a military spouse, moved with her family to Spain. Upon her return from Spain in 2019, Suzanne resumed her role as Vice President and Controller, overseeing the Accounting Department. She was promoted to the CFO role in September, 2019. In her role as CFO, she oversees the Finance and Accounting Departments, as well as developing the financial strategy for the Affiliate.
Prior to joining the Chesapeake and Carolinas team, Suzanne held several progressive leadership positions in a variety of settings. She began her career in Honolulu, Hawaii as a tax associate and moved into the audit practice. As an Audit Supervisor, Suzanne worked with non-profits, insurance companies, retailers and wholesale manufacturers. Suzanne, then, became the Comptroller at Central Union Church, whose operations included an Adult Day Care, preschool and wedding business, in addition to the traditional church operations. Suzanne managed the Accounting Department, Payroll and developed the organization’s financial strategy. After moving to the DC area, Suzanne served as a financial consultant for an internet start up and several non-profits.
Suzanne is originally from Chicago, IL. She has been lucky to live in Hawaii, Italy, and Spain with her husband, John, a US Naval Officer. They have 2 daughters and live in Maryland.
Suzanne loves her work at Volunteers of America and is very proud to be part of a team that helps to improve the lives of some of the most vulnerable individuals and families in our communities.
