NOVEMBER 10, 2025

Volunteers of America Chesapeake & Carolinas (VOACC) proudly announces the appointment of Susan Doyle, MSW, LICSW, as our new Vice President for District of Columbia Programs, effective October 6, 2025.

With more than 25 years of experience as a social worker, Susan brings a deep commitment to advancing mental health, addiction recovery, and community well-being. After earning her Master of Social Welfare from the University of California, Berkeley, she returned to the DC metro area, where she has served in a variety of clinical and executive leadership roles.

Susan’s career began in children’s mental health as a play therapist supporting youth in schools and foster care settings. Over time, she expanded her work to lead programs that serve individuals across the lifespan, including mental health, addiction treatment, case management, and community outreach.

Most recently, Susan served as Chief Clinical Officer at a DC-based Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), where she oversaw all mental health and community resource programming. She successfully implemented and sustained Evidence-Based Practices, including Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) and Trauma Systems Therapy (TST), ensuring quality care for diverse populations.

In prior leadership roles, she developed client-centered programming, managed multiple government grants from application through execution, and restructured quality assurance efforts to strengthen nonprofit performance standards. Her leadership enhanced data collection, analysis, and client feedback processes to better inform service delivery.

I’ve always heard such good things about the work done at VOA as well as the great workplace culture. I’m excited to be coming on board and support the behavioral health programming in Washington, DC.

– Susan Doyle, MSW, LICSW, Vice President for District of Columbia Programs

As Vice President, Susan will oversee behavioral health, housing stabilization, addiction recovery, and community engagement programs throughout the District. Her experience and passion for service will further advance VOACC’s mission to create lasting change in the lives of those most in need.

About Volunteers of America Chesapeake & Carolinas

Volunteers of America Chesapeake & Carolinas (“VOACC”) is a faith-based, nonprofit organization whose mission is to inspire self-reliance, dignity, and hope through housing, health and human services.

At VOACC, we have been helping to create Healthy Communities for All for over 129 years by aligning housing, health and human services. We actively pursue health equity by filling the gap in housing and care for underserved populations, including those who are experiencing homelessness, low-income, underinsured or uninsured, justice-involved and veterans. By offering integrated housing and care, we address the social determinants that impact the long-term stability for those in need.

Through a dedicated team of management, staff and volunteers who are guided by our Core Values – Visionary, One Body, Integrity, Compassion, Excellence, and Faith – we are the safety net for thousands of men, women and children each year across Maryland, the District of Columbia, Virginia and the Carolinas. We operate over 49 programs focused on 8 areas of service: homeless services, affordable housing, mental health, substance use recovery, intellectual/developmental disabilities services, community re-entry, veteran services and workforce development.

VOACC has over 500 staff members and more than 2,000 volunteers. The organization helps over 9,675 individuals and families every year from Maryland, Virginia, the District of Columbia, and the Carolinas. For more information on VOACC, please visit www.voachesapeake.org.
