Creating A Healthy Community for Vulnerable Residents

About

A partnership between Volunteers of America and the Lawson Family Foundation Fund, the Market Heights Neighborhood Program is designed to expand access to vital social services resources and support for residents of Market Heights Apartments and the surrounding community. Located at 651 May Avenue in Norfolk, Market Heights Apartments is a 100% affordable 164-unit Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) apartment community developed by Lawson. Using a community-driven approach, the program leverages service provider partnerships to offer the following onsite and community-based support that help to improve the overall health and wellbeing of residents in need.

  • Monthly mobile food pantry
  • Support accessing care via Medicaid/Medicare
  • Mental health intervention & prevention workshops
  • Mental health support groups
  • After-school tutoring
  • Parenting & childhood development activities
  • Financial literacy training
  • Job resource assistance
  • Clothing drives
  • Public safety workshops
  • Community clean up days
