Vice President/Controller 

As Vice President/Controller, Tanea Manning is responsible for safeguarding financial assets and ensuring accurate and timely recording of all business transactions at Volunteers of America Chesapeake & Carolinas.  

By maintaining disciplines of internal controls and checks across all departments including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and payroll, Manning monitors and reviews the Chesapeake & Carolinas affiliate’s financial systems and processes. She is an empowering, collaborative, and servant leader navigating day-to-day activities including but not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing/billing, collections, payroll, fixed asset records, general & entity accounting, and program liaison. Manning has 10 years of managerial experience and has enhanced those skills through the Volunteers of America KeyMakers professional development program, graduating in the affiliate’s inaugural class of 2022. Her professional experience includes non-profit finance/accounting and government consulting for audit readiness. 

During her tenure, Manning has strengthened communication and business practices, not only within the accounting department, but with program operations and executive leadership. She regularly seeks ways to improve the departments’ internal controls and data security for employees and the organization.  

Manning earned her Bachelor of Administration in Accounting degree from Howard University in Washington, DC in 2012.  

Outside of the organization, Manning has a passion for empowering minority communities with healthy eating habits and formerly served on the Steering committee for Prince George’s Food Equity Council. Currently, she is the Vice President for the Greenbelt Farmers’ Market Board of Directors and is seeking other ways to get involved with bringing access to healthy foods to communities in need. In her spare time, Manning loves spending time with her family, dancing, attending festivals & concerts, and cooking.
