Vice President of Finance

As Vice President of Finance at Volunteers of America Chesapeake & Carolinas (VOACC), Laura Chen leads the organization’s financial strategy, ensuring fiscal responsibility and driving sustainable growth. She oversees all finance functions, including financial reporting, audits, and regulatory compliance. 

Chen is a Certified Public Accountant with over a decade of experience in public accounting. Before joining VOACC, she served as an Audit Manager at BDO USA, where VOACC was one of her clients. She brings deep expertise in nonprofit accounting and complex financial standards, including ASC 842 lease accounting, Current Expected Credit Losses (CECL), revenue recognition, compliance under Uniform Guidance. 

Chen began her career in Taipei, Taiwan, as an Audit Associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers, working in Assurance Services and Advisory Services for 4+ years where she obtained Big4 professional experience in external and internal audit practices.

Chen holds dual bachelor’s degrees in public administration and policy and in Accountancy from National Taipei University in Taipei Taiwan, and a Master of Science in Professional Accounting from Fordham University in Manhattan, New York. The degree combination equips Laura with the abilities of logical thinking and financial analysis. 

Chen enjoys traveling and cooking Taiwanese cuisine. Outside of work, she cherishes time with her husband, daughter, and their two cats.
