Anthony “Gib” Gibson

Vice President of VP HR & Administration

As Vice President of Human Resources and Administration, Anthony “Gib” Gibson provides strategic leadership for all HR functions, compliance, and risk management in addition to championing organizational culture, employee recruitment, engagement and retention, and diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives. Gibson collaborates across organizational departments to ensure Volunteers of America Chesapeake & Carolinas is the employer of choice. 

Gibson joined the Volunteers of America Chesapeake & Carolinas family in 2024 and is a strategic human resources leader with more than two decades experience in senior human resources leadership in acute care hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, government, and education and training. Prior to joining our organization, Gibson served as the Chief Human Resources Officer at the Children’s Hospital of Detroit, Michigan and Vice President of Human Resources at Jennie Stuart Medical Center in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. 

Gibson’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and African American Studies from Indiana University, and a Master of Science in Human Resource Management from Strayer University. He is also an Organizational Leadership doctoral student at Indiana Wesleyan University, where he serves as an adjunct professor teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses for the DeVoe School of Business.   

Gibson has a deep commitment to his spiritual formation. He is an ordained elder in The African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, has a pastoral tenure of more than 25 years, the 7th International President of Presiding Elders, and is a member of the denomination’s Global Missions Board.  

Family is a priority for Gibson. He and his wife Belinda have three adult sons and two adorable grandchildren. His hobbies include international travel, civic involvement, cooking at family gatherings, and anything that makes his grandchildren smile.
