William Wu – VP of Impact & Engagement, Hopeful Minds Outreach

William Wu is a sophomore at St. Albans School with a deep passion for piano, problem-solving, reading, swimming, and nature. Having experienced firsthand the pressures of the digital age on mental health, he was inspired to join Hopeful Minds Outreach to support others in navigating similar challenges. For William, music is a source of clarity and peace, and through Hopeful Minds Outreach, he hopes to bring the healing power of live music to those in need, fostering comfort and connection.

Ryan Guo – USA Kung Fu Team Member

Ryan Guo is a 10th grader at Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology and a dedicated Kung Fu practitioner. A member of the USA Kung Fu Team since 2023, he has earned multiple first-place finishes in competitions such as the Presidential Wushu Cup (2023 & 2024), excelling in 9 Sectioned Whip, Drunken Fist, Shaolin Xiaohong Fist, and Five Animal Fist. He has also placed in international events, including WuXingBaFa Quan (2022 International Shaolin Kung Fu Online Games) and DaMo Straight Sword (2021 Shaolin Warriors Meet). Outside of Kung Fu, Ryan has a passion for math, coding, reading, running, and spending time with his dog. With a strong desire to uplift and inspire his community, he hopes to use his skills and dedication to make a positive impact.

Jenny Huang – Dancer & Performer

Jenny Huang is a 10th grader who has been dancing for 14 years and performing on stage for 11 years. She is currently a core dancer on the Madison HS Dance Team. From 2022 to 2024, she secured multiple first-place finishes in regional solo dance competitions. Jenny also served as the lead dancer of Chinese dance at the World Culture Festival in Washington, D.C. and performed in the “Half Time” show for the NBA China Chinese New Year’s Eve Game in Washington, D.C. Beyond dance, she enjoys music and cooking.

Joshua Huang – Wushu/Kung Fu Performer

Joshua Huang is an 8th grader and a Black Belt Candidate in Wushu/Kung Fu, which he has been practicing for six years. He has competed at the 2022-2024 International Wushu Championships in California, Connecticut, and New York, earning first-place awards. Additionally, he received 1st place in the World Martial Arts Competition in Hong Kong. Joshua enjoys science projects, hiking, and cross-country running and frequently showcases his skills in martial arts, lion dance, and dragon dance at community events.

Caroline Su – Co-President, Hopeful Minds Outreach

Caroline Su is a 10th grader and co-president of Hopeful Minds Outreach, a youth-led nonprofit that inspires optimism through the arts. She began learning piano at age six and currently studies under Lisa Emenheiser Sarratt of the NSO. Caroline has won numerous state, national, and international piano competitions, including the 2022 and 2023 MTNA VA State Competitions and the 2022 William Knabe International Competition. She was among 20 pianists nationwide selected to attend the prestigious SouthEastern Piano Festival (SEPF) in 2024. Caroline has performed at venues such as the Kennedy Center Millennium Stage, the Hungarian Embassy in the U.S., and the Philadelphia Young Pianists’ Academy (PYPA) Musical Soirée (2024). She regularly shares her love of music by performing in assisted living and mental health facilities throughout the D.C. area. In her free time, she enjoys reading, playing volleyball, and listening to music and is passionate about fostering a greater appreciation for music in the community.
