Originally from Upstate New York, Dale Ogborn (56) served his country proudly as a military policeman at Fort Gordon in Germany. Being discharged from service didn’t mean Dale stopped being of service to those most in need in his community.

Dale is the kind of man who goes out of his way to help where he can. So when Dale needed help, our staff came running.

Before Dale found his way to Volunteers of America, he had been struggling with severe hip pain and was homeless. After moving to the Raleigh/Durham area in North Carolina in 2018 his hip pain continued to worsen, eventually forcing Dale to undergo hip replacement surgery.

After being in the hospital for four months, Dale needed a comfortable place to recover that was cheaper than a hospital bed. With no where to go, Dale was referred to our Hospital-to-Home program at the Maple Court Veterans Transitional Housing Program Apartments in September 2019. Throughout his recovery, our staff provided Dale coordinated care, case management and connections to services for housing and income assistance.
