Cyndi Thompson

Director of Operations for the Carolinas Regions

As Director of Operations for the Carolinas Regions, Cyndi Thompson oversees the regions’ compliance, quality assurance plan, and organization’s compliance directives/concerns with oversight agencies. 

Thompson has worked in the substance use disorder field for more than 18 years and has assumed positions from therapist to director. She joined the VOA Chesapeake & Carolinas team in December 2020 to bring knowledge in the areas of behavioral health and human services. She supports the current programs in the Carolinas and is looking forward to expanding the organization’s reach and services to include substance use disorder, mental health and other behavioral health services. 

Thompson has been the director of three different residential inpatient/outpatient drug and alcohol programs from Erie to Venango County in North Carolina; two of these facilities included a detox component and one was a dual diagnosis facility. She has experience working with the criminal justice/sex offender populations and with gender-specific and co-ed treatment components.

Thompson was a member of the Heroin Task Force in Erie County and sat on the Advisory Board of the Esper Treatment Center in Erie, Pennsylvania that provides Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) options, counseling and serves as one of the Centers of Excellence across Northwestern Pennsylvania. Thompson has a passion for working with populations impacted by substance use challenges, especially Medicaid populations, to provide them with quality care and treatment that can start them on their journey to recovery and help them become productive members of society. 

Thompson has a BA in Sociology with a minor in Criminal Justice and a Master’s in Educational Psychology from Edinboro University.
