Program Description:

VOACs MHRS Core Services Agency located at 508 Kennedy St NW offers the following community based, rehabilitation, mental health services:

  • Diagnostic and Assessment
  • Community Support
  • Counseling
  • Medication Somatic

MHRS services are delivered 50% of the time in the community, including in the consumer’s home. Services are for people who have a primary mental health diagnosis of a serious and persistent mental illness, and who need help to return to a level of functioning that allows them to fully integrate their lives at home, at work, and in the community.

Services are delivered by para professional community support workers, independently licensed, master’s level mental health professionals, and peer support counselors. Services are person centered, selected by the consumer, and reflected in a treatment plan designed to help consumers reach their highest levels of independence and recovery from a major mental illness.

VOACs MHRS Core Service Agency offers over seventeen (17) evidence based practices designed to help people achieve, and maintain, long term recovery.

Population Served:

  • Adults and Adult Family members in the District of Columbia who have a primary mental health diagnosis fitting the definition of “serious and persistent.”
  • Consumers are Medicaid eligible recipients who;
    • May have co-occurring physical health needs;
    • May have co-occurring substance use treatment needs;
    • May be homeless;
    • May need assistance to access entitlements and permanent housing;

Facility Description:

508 Kennedy Street is a 8488 square feet facility located on the second floor. It has a dedicated waiting room with reception, and a large conference/training room. There are administrative offices in addition to group programming and individual meeting rooms. It is accessible by bus, and there is on-street parking.

  • Mental Health Services that are culturally and linguistically competent serving the Latino community
  • Application assistance for disability and other benefits/entitlements
  • Referrals and assistance accessing other services and supports as needed

Staffing Pattern:

The DC Behavioral Health Programs are led by independently licensed behavioral health clinicians in the District of Columbia. The staff who deliver services may either be credentialed, non-licensed staff with 3 years of experience or more, or are independently licensed behavioral health clinicians.
